Thieves tried and failed to steal Kelowna Bitcoin ATM

Thieves used a pickup truck to smash repeatedly into a Kelowna business in an attempt to steal a Bitcoin ATM early this morning.

Police were called at around 3:02 a.m. today, Oct. 7, about an attempted break-in at a business in the 2000 block of Gordon Drive, according to an RCMP media release. RCMP do not identify the business.

Officers were told a white GMC Sierra pickup was used by two men to ram the building more than once.

They fled the scene in the truck, leaving its tailgate behind.

“A preliminary assessment conducted by staff on site suggests that despite the thousands of dollars in damage caused, nothing appears to be taken from inside the business as the suspects were unsuccessful in taking the Bitcoin ATM,” Kelowna RCMP spokesperson Solana Paré said in the release. “Forensic investigators were called upon to examine the scene for physical evidence.”
